The Oklahoma Bass Federation 2011Youth State Championship was held Sunday, May 15 on Lake Ponca, Ponca City, OK. The competing age groups were the 11-14 Division and the 15-18 Division.
Trevor Owens, Ponca City Junior Bassmasters, won the 11-14 division with a 5 fish limit weighing 12.63 pounds. Second in the junior age group was three time State Champion Matt Hazenfranz with the only other limit in that division. Hazenfranz is also a Ponca City Junior Bassmaster member.
Jenna Beam, Ponca City Junior Bassmasters, won the the Oklahoma Bass Federation 2011Championship 15 -18 year old youth division championship on Sunday, May 15 at Lake Ponca in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She won with a 5 fish limit weighing 10.63 pounds, with a 3.5 pounder coming in the final 30 minutes of competition. Jenna edged 2009 State Cha
mpion Tyler Dennis, 3 Rivers Junior Bassmasters, who had the only other limit in the tournament.
The 11-14 State Champion, Trevor Owens, was competing in his second State Junior State Championship. He has been fishing local buddy tournaments with his dad, Don. Don was our OBF Central Division winner in 2008 and represented us at the National Federation tournament held on Lake Wiley in Charlotte, NC. Don won the Central Division title and advanced to the 2008 BFL All-American.
The 15-18 Champion, Jenna Beam, was the first young lady to participate in our state tournament series 4 years ago and has become the first to take home a Stat
e Title. She follows her brother Jake , who was the 2010 State Champion, and they become the first family to share Junior State Championships. Jenna and Jake now share State titles with uncle Jody Linder, 2007, and grandfather Don Linder, 1990 and 1991.
The event was sponsored by the City of Ponca City, Ponca City Parks and Recreation Department, Dougan's BBQ, Quality Water, Food Pyramid, the Chandler Wal Mart, Ponca City Bassmasters, the Oklahoma Bass Federation and The National Bass Federation (TBF).
